Dining on Words by the Yorkshire Writers' Lunch

After nearly two years of weekly lunching and blogging, we decided to publish the fruits of our labours in printed form. There’s something so much more satisfying about an actual book, rather than a webpage, isn't there?

So here is Dining on WORDS, a veritable smorgasbord of poetry, short stories, flash fiction, travel tales and comment. There are even three collaborative pieces, where we each contributed a portion of the story to the overall dish. Something of an experiment, certainly, but hopefully not a case of too many cooks!

Just click on the cover to go to Amazon. Bon appétit!

"...if you fancy a taste of different styles of writing, covering almost every topic under the sun, you will enjoy this. The book looks and feels nice too."

"...a very skilled group of writers, every single one is engaging. I feel I have been on those trips, had my heart turned over by the poetry, pondered on the questions raised. You only have to pick up the book to know that its content is worth it's weight and production."

Shoreline by Dave Rigby

Harry Vos, a retired man in his 60's and a part-time private investigator, is on holiday on the Belgian coast. When he takes an early morning stroll along the local beach he and a woman walking her dog are shocked to discover a body washed up on the shore. Unable to get a signal on his phone Harry hurries to a bar on the other side of the sand dunes, to call the police. By the time he returns to the beach, he finds the body, the woman and the dog have all disappeared.

"The story kept me turning the pages as I got to know Harry, his nephew Ryck, and the various women in Harry's life - including a truly frightful daughter. The mystery at the heart of the story is slowly and satisfyingly revealed thanks to our Harry's almost reckless persistence. I'm a big fan already."

How do you tell the woman of your dreams that you love her, when neither of you believes in romance? Practical joker Neil (known as Nellie to his friends) is smitten with hippie-chick Tabitha, but she thinks she has already found her soulmate in reliable Sam.  Will Nellie risk a long stretch in jail to be with the woman he loves? This rumbustious trip through the alternative society of the 1970s is sure to make you smile, whether you ever inhaled or not.

"This is a great read - funny and quirkily romantic, it surprised me right up to the last page... Highly recommended."

"I felt very involved with, and increasingly fond of the main characters; the ending hung over me for days, and still gives me a shiver."

"Read it in less than a day and didn't want it to end...The hope, the innocence, the optimism and the energy - and all the mistakes and ignorance - this was a world very different from today, yet easy to relate to and feel a fondness for."
